The concept of a home venue for the arts is explained in the opening page about Abrams Tower West. Its inspiration was born in Poland, in 2005, inside a medieval tower, that I restored and transformed into a multimedia arts center, restaurant and wine bar, as the country was rapidly growing after joining the European Union the prior year.
When the Berlin Wall was torn down not far to the west, I toured the country and became painfully aware of the extreme limits of what had been culturally inaccessible during the Stalinist era. There were underground clubs where bands played and galleries inside of private apartments, when the crackdown on free expression was extreme. Choices of food, drinks, clothing and all consumer items were extremely few.
Decades later, inspired by the remarkable individuals I came to personally know, who risked their lives to keep free expression flowing, followed by my own experience to help enlighten a population which had been deprived of so many cultural advantages we easily take for granted in the West, I created this unique venue on my home turf for rarely exposed creative expression and social connections.
Since Abrams’ Tower West opened in 2017, it has presented and hosted a wide variety of activities and events. The background slide show offers a visual documentation of some that have taken place, ranging from exhibiting art to live music, a sonar meditation session, authentic exotic dinners, experimental dance, multimedia projections, a series of salon lectures, film presentations, wine tastings, film shoots and more.
