LA LUZ’ INAUGURAL EVENT
The first event to take place in La luz in 2005, before the business had officially opened, was a slide presentation by Catalan architect, Xavier Nieto, who was invited to Wrocław to create an artistic work out of the stairwells inside of the tower. They became reminiscent of bar floors which Nieto painted by hand in Barcelona.
Nieto’s presentation made to a group of Wrocław architecture students, included photographs of monumental public sculptures he built between 1982 and ’93. They were commissioned by the Barcelona Town Hall as part of a major urban renewal program prior to the 1992 Olympics. Among these monuments are works by renowned New York artists, Roy Lichtenstein, Claes Oldenburg, Richard Serra and Ellsworth Kelly.
